**“Survivor 49” Star MC Chukwujekwu Opens Up About the Real Reason She Got Voted Out**
MC Chukwujekwu, a standout contestant on “Survivor 49,” is shedding light on the real reason behind her unanimous vote-off on last night’s episode. In an exclusive interview with The Post, the 30-year-old revealed a revealing conversation she had with fellow contestant Jawan Pitts about race — a moment that ultimately didn’t make the final edit.
Chukwujekwu explained, “So Sophie [Segreti] told me that she wanted to put that vote on Jawan, and after sending Nate [Moore] home previously, my heart did not feel good about doing that.” Drawing from her past Survivor experience, she added, “I watched Season 42, and I saw how there were multiple Black players in a row getting put on the jury, and I didn’t want that to happen again because it made me feel horrible watching it.”
During their “out-of-game conversation,” Chukwujekwu said she cautioned Pitts, 28, that Segreti, 31, planned to vote for him. However, she also promised Pitts that she was on his side. “So it wasn’t just telling Jawan just to tell Jawan,” she noted. “There was so much more to it. And I know some people might say, ‘Oh, you’re playing a game for 1 million dollars, don’t bring race into it.’ But I think people that are not people of color or Black, they’re not going to understand that this is always a chip on your shoulder that you have to deal with.”
Unfortunately, Pitts revealed the conversation to others despite promising to keep it confidential. “Jawan, even though he said he wasn’t going to tell people, he ended up telling other people, and that made it get messy and led to the result that it did,” Chukwujekwu said.
The Texas native also described Pitts’ decision to betray her and then vote her off as “very hurtful.” When asked if she was upset with Sophie S. for voting against her, Chukwujekwu responded, “No, because it was the game. But this was out of the game.” She continued, “And maybe shame on me for trying to have an out-of-game moment in the game, but I felt like we were on the same page. So yeah, it was extremely hurtful that I was protecting him and I was on his side and he didn’t do the same for me.”
When the topic of other conversations about race on the island came up, Chukwujekwu, now the second member of the jury, teased, “At this moment, no. At this moment, there wasn’t. That’s all I’ll say.”
“Survivor 49” airs Wednesdays on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
