Steelers’ Jalen Ramsey argues his huge hit on Michael Pittman was legal despite major fine

The ever-outspoken Jalen Ramsey is no stranger to controversy, finding himself once again in hot water over a hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 9 win.

During media availability on Friday, Ramsey addressed the hit stick he delivered to Pittman—one for which he was flagged—while also arguing the legality of the shot on the talented Colts wideout.

“I’m just playing, man,” Ramsey told reporters. “Playing the only way I know how to play. Trying to keep the game of football fierce, physical, competitive, and in those opportunities I’ll continue to do the same thing. I did it legally. Didn’t hit him in the head and neck area. I kept my head and neck out of it. So, I’ll continue to do those things and hopefully not get penalized for playing the game the right way.”

Despite Ramsey decrying the penalty, the NFL fined him over $17,000 for unnecessary roughness one day later, citing the incident as a hit on a defenseless player.

It didn’t take long for Ramsey to single-handedly bring back the edge the Steelers’ defense has been sorely lacking early this season. His stellar play at safety, coupled with some hard hits old-school fans will love, is exactly the fire Pittsburgh needs as the second half of the season begins to unfold.
