Notes: TCC, Worth County, Cairo remain alive in state playoffs

MOULTRIE Thomas County Central kept its remarkable season alive on Friday crushing Villa Rica 55-14 in a second-round playoff game in the Jackets Nest in Thomasville. The Justin Rogers-coached Yellow Jackets will be home again this Friday to play host to Woodward Academy in a Class 6A state quarterfinal game. Central has scored 128 points in its first two playoff games and have scored 50 or more points in a game seven times this season. • Worth County also remains undefeated after edging Bleckley County 38-35 on Friday in Sylvester. The Rams, coached by former Colquitt County offensive coordinator Jeff Hammond, is now 12-0 and will play host to 11-1 Gordon Lee in a Class A-Division 1 quarterfinal next Friday. The Worth County defensive coordinator is former Packer player and assistant coach Bull Barge. • Cairo lost its first two games this season, but has won 10 in a row after defeating Troup 28-20 on Friday. The Syrupmakers will go on the road to play 11-1 in the Class AAA quarterfinals next Friday. • Among the teams eliminated in second-round games on Friday are Lee County, ousted by No. 1-ranked Hughes 49-31. The Trojans finish 8-4. • Thomasville also fell on Friday, losing 24-19 to Toombs County Class A-Division I matchup. • Benedictine, which opened its season with a 27-24 loss to Colquitt County in Moultrie, defeated Cass 21-7 on Friday in a Class 4A second-round game. The Cadets, who won the Region 1-4A championship, will take a 10-game winning streak into its home quarterfinal meeting with 12-0 Central of Carrollton on Friday. • Colquitt County’s three losses this season were to North Gwinnett, Lowndes and Grayson. The three teams, all still alive in the Class 6A quarterfinals, are a combined 33-3. • Former Packer Jaheim Ward put an exclamation point on the final game of his red-shirt senior football season at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday night. Ward intercepted a pass and returned 37 yards for a touchdown with 45 seconds remaining in the Colonels 33-10 victory at Utah Tech. The pick-six was the second interception in his two seasons at Eastern Kentucky. He finished this season with 50 solo and 32 assisted tackles and two tackles for loss. The Colonels finished the season with a 5-7 record. • Omar Daniels had four solo tackles and one assisted tackle and was credited with a half-sack in Georgia Tech’s 42-28 home loss to Pitt on Saturday. Tech will meet Georgia at 3: 30 p. m. on Saturday at Mercedes Benz Stadium. • University of Northern Iowa freshman and former three-time Colquitt County High state champion wrestler Logan Paradice is 6-0 with three major decisions and three technical falls. • Amira Walters-Smith is having an outstanding start to her freshman basketball season at Central Georgia Tech, averaging 25. 2 points in her first five games. She has scored 33 points twice, 32 points once and 30 points once in helping lead the Titans to a 4-1 record. • Five former Colquitt County flag football players are on the Brewton-Parker Christian University roster: Caylnn Singletary, Ta’Meria Williams, Montana Tatum, Mashayla Davis and Mari Knighton. The Barons open their 2026 season on Feb. 7 against Andrew College. • Former Packer Christian Mata started all 18 games for the Emmanuel College men’s soccer team. The sophomore forward had 24 shots and scored three goals for the Lions. • Ethan Sellers is competing in his senior season for the Life University wrestling team. Competing at 133 pounds, the former Packer was third in the Nov. 9 Georgia Open. He went 5-1 with two pins, a technical fall and a 16-7 major decision. On Nov. 15, Sellers finished sixth in the Grand View Open in Iowa. • Le’Meke Brockington caught four passes, including one for a touchdown, in Minnesota’s 38-35 loss to Northwestern on Saturday.
