**Netflix Boards Live-Action Adaptation of Eloise Starring Mae Schenk and Ryan Reynolds**
Netflix has recently joined the project to distribute a live-action adaptation of the beloved children’s book series *Eloise*. The film will star newcomer Mae Schenk in the titular role and Ryan Reynolds as a new original villain.
Amy Sherman-Palladino is directing the family film, working from a script she co-wrote alongside Hannah Marks and Linda Woolverton. Reynolds will also produce the project through his Maximum Effort banner, in partnership with George Dewey, Ashley Fox, and Johnny Pariseau. Linda Woolverton will serve as a producer, with Molly Milstein executive producing for Maximum Effort.
While the live-action family film’s official logline remains under wraps, it promises to be a wholly original adventure inspired by Kay Thompson’s classic *Eloise* book series, illustrated by Hilary Knight. Schenk will bring the mischievous character to life, complemented by Reynolds’ portrayal of a fresh villain new to the story.
Hannah Minghella, Netflix’s Head of Feature Animation and Family Film, expressed enthusiasm about the project:

The film is being produced in collaboration with independent film and TV studio MRC, which acquired the rights to *Eloise* in 2019. Handmade Films is also involved in production alongside MRC. Jonathan Golfman and Brye Adler, Co-Presidents of MRC Film, noted:

Initially set up at Paramount, *Eloise* found a new home at Netflix following the recent Skydance merger, as previous Paramount leadership anticipated several films would seek new platforms rather than languish in development. Netflix quickly moved to reunite with Ryan Reynolds and Maximum Effort, having collaborated on past hits like *Red Notice*.
Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau, Co-Presidents of Production at Maximum Effort, shared their excitement about casting Schenk:

MRC will continue to collaborate closely with the Thompson Estate, illustrator Hilary Knight, and Simon & Schuster, the publisher of the *Eloise* book series, as the film moves forward. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in November.
