The Hillside Strangler case, which saw two serial killers terrorize Los Angeles in the late 1970s, is set to be explored in a new true-crime docuseries for MGM+. The network and streamer have greenlit the four-part series, *The Hillside Strangler*, from Sony’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), the team behind Netflix’s *Night Stalker* and Oxygen’s *A Plan to Kill*.
The series will tell the chilling story of Kenneth Bianchi and his cousin Angelo Buono Jr., who killed 12 women and girls in Buono’s upholstery shop in Glendale before dumping their bodies across the wooded hillsides of Los Angeles. It will also chronicle how homicide detective Frank Salerno pursued the case and ultimately discovered that the heinous acts were committed by two men.
Both Bianchi and Buono were sentenced to life in prison. In the docuseries, Salerno revisits the case, providing firsthand insight, while killer Kenneth Bianchi—who remains alive in prison—shares his story for the first time. Angelo Buono Jr. passed away behind bars in 2002.
*The Hillside Strangler* is executive produced by IPC’s Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman, Tim Walsh (executive producer of *Night Stalker*), and Peter LoGreco, who also directs and serves as showrunner. The series is set to premiere on January 18.
Michael Wright, head of MGM+, commented, “*The Hillside Strangler* is a compelling deep dive into an infamous serial killing that terrorized Southern California in the late 1970s. This docuseries delivers a riveting experience with unprecedented access to one of the most notorious cases in American criminal history, offering MGM+ viewers the premium, thought-provoking storytelling they’ve come to expect from our brand.”
