Mary Jean Martin, 90

Mary Jean Martin, age 90 of New Hampton, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a. m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton, with the Rev. Chris Podhajsky celebrating the Mass. A public Rosary was held at 8: 30 a. m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at the church before the visitation. Friends were invited to greet the family from 9 to 11 a. m. before the Mass at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, Mary Jean requested memorials to be directed to St Joseph Community School. Mary Jean Martin was born to James and Viola (Halbur) Collins on March 19, 1935, in New Hampton. Mary Jean grew up with three siblings. She began her education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1954. On a blessed day in 1957, she wed Joseph Martin of Lawler, and together they embarked on a 37-year journey of love and companionship. Following Joe’s passing in 1994, Mary Jean returned to her roots in New Hampton. Mary Jean’s professional life was as varied as it was fulfilling. From her early days at JCPenney to her caring service at First National Bank and Conway-Markham Funeral Home, she brought a touch of grace to every encounter. Known for her warm smile and compassionate spirit, Mary Jean’s work was not just a job but a calling to serve those around her which she passionately carried out until age 85. Outside of work, Mary Jean’s life was rich with simple pleasures. Whether she was playing a friendly game of cards, on the dance floor, or enjoying an evening of bingo, she embraced life with gratitude and joy. Her love for faith, family and friendship was the cornerstone of her life. Mary Jean’s soul was nourished daily as she prayed the Rosary, a practice that sustained her for 75 years. She was also a devoted member of Holy Family Parish. Mary Jean is survived by a sister-in-law, Pat Martin of Marion, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Mary Jean is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; siblings, Elaine (William) Costigan, Walter (Lorraine) Collins, and Anna Mae Roethler; and special friend, Paul Johnson.
