BYU fell from the unbeaten ranks last week, being overwhelmed at then-No. 8 Texas Tech by a score of 29-7. The Cougars, now 5-1 in the Big 12, remain one of three teams in the conference with a single loss, alongside the Red Raiders and Cincinnati.
BYU’s only score came late in the game when Bear Bachmeier connected with Chase Roberts on a six-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, closing the gap after Texas Tech had built a 26-0 lead. Bachmeier finished the game 23-of-38 for 188 yards but threw an interception, as the offense was held to just 255 total yards.
On the other side, TCU also comes off a tough loss last week. The Horned Frogs fell at home to Iowa State, 20-17, after the Cyclones returned a punt 79 yards for a go-ahead touchdown with 6:32 remaining. TCU had led 17-6 before that pivotal play.
Quarterback Josh Hoover completed 34-of-50 passes for 319 yards and a touchdown but threw two interceptions. Jordan Dwyer caught 11 passes for 108 yards and a score, while Eric McAlister also had 11 receptions for 107 yards. Trent Battle added a touchdown run in the defeat.
Historically, TCU has had the edge in this rivalry, winning five straight games against BYU, including a dominant 44-11 victory at home in 2023. The Horned Frogs lead the all-time series 7-5, with BYU’s last win dating back to 2007.
