**Christian Danner Urges Lewis Hamilton to Take Accountability Amid Tough Start at Ferrari**
Former F1 driver Christian Danner has called on Lewis Hamilton to take responsibility for his recent underwhelming performances instead of succumbing to “self-pity” at Ferrari.
The 40-year-old British driver arrived at the Scuderia with high hopes of restoring championship glory to Maranello. However, his journey so far has been far from smooth, leaving him struggling in the early stages of his tenure with the team.
Hamilton joined Ferrari after a solid finish to last year’s season, which included two race wins at the British and Belgian Grands Prix. While this tally may seem modest compared to his career total of 105 race wins, it marked a significant turnaround following a challenging period coinciding with the introduction of the ground effect era.
Heading to a Ferrari outfit that had narrowly missed out on the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, expectations were high. Yet, Hamilton currently trails his teammate Charles Leclerc by a staggering 66 points in the drivers’ standings and is yet to secure a podium finish this season.
Danner commented on Hamilton’s struggles, stating, “He’s suffering, practically drowning in self-pity, feeling bad about how things are going. There’s a lot of self-inflicted potential for problems. For example, he damaged his wing with a really bad move against Franco Colapinto — that was his own fault. Mistakes like missing yellow flags and other blunders have also been his responsibility. It’s not that the world is against him. Taking responsibility, even though it might be difficult for a world champion of Hamilton’s caliber, is a proven way forward. He just needs to keep his head down and move on. He’s certainly fast enough.”
At the recent Brazilian Grand Prix, Hamilton had a particularly difficult weekend. He was eliminated in both SQ2 and Q2 sessions and retired from the race following a collision with Franco Colapinto. Reflecting on the event, Hamilton said, “I feel terrible for the team.”
So far in the 2025 season, Lewis Hamilton has accumulated 148 points and is currently engaged in a battle with Kimi Antonelli for sixth place in the drivers’ championship.
As the season progresses, much will be expected from Hamilton to bounce back and fulfill the high hopes placed upon him at Ferrari.
