**Sonora’s Standard Park Hosts Field of Honor Through Veterans Day**
Standard Park in Sonora, CA, is lined with flags as the community is invited to come out and view the Field of Honor through Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 12. This meaningful display is a project of the Sonora Sunrise Rotary Club, aiming to honor local veterans, active duty military personnel, and first responders.
Event chairperson Lisa Dasko explained, “The Field of Honor is a collection of flags that we dedicate to local Veterans, active duty military, or first responders. The Sonora Sunrise Rotary has been doing this for four years.” This year, the Field of Honor has expanded to feature 300 flags, creating a powerful tribute visible throughout the park.
Opening ceremonies were held over the weekend, featuring several speakers, including local veteran Frank Smart, Shane Warner of Columbia College Fire Academy, Jamie Franklin of Horses of Warriors, Tuolumne County Sheriff David Vasquez, members of the Rotary Club, and other community leaders.
The Field of Honor is free to attend from noon to 4:30 p.m. daily through November 12. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Horses of Warriors organization and the Columbia College Fire Academy.
This event is one of several Veterans Day-related activities taking place this week in the Mother Lode region, offering residents an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have served.
