Packers Trade Idea Sends Underused Wideout To The NFC South

The Green Bay Packers remain the top dog in the NFC and are the only team to have suffered just one loss so far this season. Given their success—including a resounding win over former quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night—most would assume they would be in the market for an additional piece to strengthen their roster further. Perhaps a running back, cornerback, or defensive tackle.

However, in a surprising trade pitch, the Packers are looking to move a player from their deepest position: wide receiver. The team is reportedly considering sending wideout Dontayvion Wicks to a fellow NFC team, the Atlanta Falcons.

### Packers Could Look To Move Off Third-Year Wideout

Rumors have circulated over the past few months about the Packers potentially parting ways with one of their many wide receivers, especially after drafting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in the 2025 NFL Draft. The bigger name many expected to be traded is Romeo Doubs.

Yet, with the absences of Watson and Reed, Doubs has stepped up in a major way. He currently acts as the Packers’ second leading receiver with 350 yards in the first seven games of the season. There remain question marks regarding Doubs’ role in head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst’s plans beyond his rookie contract, which concludes in March 2026. But at this point, his participation has been critical to the offense’s success this year.

### Dontayvion Wicks Has Not Been Used Much in 2025

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Wicks, who has been under-utilized in the 2025 season. The former fifth-round pick saw a reasonably large share of snaps during weeks 1-4. However, this number dropped significantly after the Week 5 bye, falling to just 34% and 27% in his last two games before missing the Sunday night game against the Steelers due to injury.

This decline in playing time has reflected in his production as well. Wicks has managed only 20 receiving yards over the past two games and has totaled just 13 receptions for 134 yards throughout the entire season.

### Falcons Seeking Receiving Corps Depth

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons are in desperate need of a second receiving option behind their #1 wideout, Drake London. Tight end Kyle Pitts has started to take on a bigger role with 344 yards in seven games. Beyond Pitts and London, the next most productive receiver—excluding running back Bijan Robinson, who has 413 receiving yards—is Darnell Mooney with 158 yards.

Wicks could immediately step in as a starter for the Falcons, bolstering a receiving corps that certainly needs more depth. This addition would be particularly important if Atlanta is looking to make a strong push for the playoffs.

### Trade Summary

**Atlanta Falcons Receive:** Dontayvion Wicks

This move could be mutually beneficial, providing the Packers flexibility with their roster and giving the Falcons a much-needed boost at wide receiver moving forward.
