Netflix India Partners with IICT and FICCI to Boost Talent in India’s AVGC-XR Sector
Netflix India has announced a strategic partnership with the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) to support students in India’s burgeoning AVGC-XR sector. This sector encompasses Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality, representing a critical part of the country’s creative-technology landscape.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the 25th edition of FICCI Frames in the presence of Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The collaboration aims to leverage Netflix’s extensive creative experience, IICT’s industry-focused academic curriculum, and FICCI’s expansive network to nurture talent and foster growth in India’s creative-technology ecosystem.
As part of this partnership, Netflix will work closely with IICT to develop its curriculum and create opportunities for students to learn directly from industry professionals. This will include a series of workshops, masterclasses, and guest lectures delivered either by Netflix or through its partners. These initiatives are designed to mentor students, enhance the learning environment, and equip emerging creators with the skills needed to succeed in the competitive creative industries.
In addition, Netflix will utilize the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity to provide scholarships to selected students in collaboration with IICT. The fund is dedicated to promoting inclusive opportunities for underrepresented talent across the media and entertainment sectors.
To further support this collaboration, Netflix will join three of IICT’s national councils: the Research & Development Council, the Academic Council, and the Industry Development Council. These councils bring together experts from academia, industry, and policy to collectively contribute to the development and expansion of India’s AVGC-XR ecosystem.
Mahima Kaul, Director – Global Affairs, Netflix India, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership:
“Building on our efforts to promote skill development and inclusive access in the media and entertainment sector, this collaboration with IICT and FICCI aligns with the government’s vision to strengthen India’s AVGC sector. By nurturing world-class talent, IICT aims to serve as a catalyst for India’s digital economy, empowering youth and enhancing the nation’s creative capabilities. Together, we aim to equip every aspiring creator with the tools and opportunities to drive innovation in entertainment.”
Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, Chief Executive Officer of IICT, highlighted the benefits for students:
“This collaboration with Netflix and FICCI marks a significant step in bridging the gap between academia and the creative industry. By providing our students with hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to global best practices, we are equipping the next generation of storytellers and technologists to thrive in India’s dynamic AVGC-XR ecosystem.”
Munjal Shroff, Chairman of the FICCI AVGC-XR Forum, emphasized the broader significance:
“The establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) as the National Centre of Excellence marks a transformative moment for India’s AVGC-XR sector. This MoU with IICT and Netflix underscores our commitment to building an industry-led ecosystem where academia, industry, and policy converge to unlock new opportunities. FICCI is proud to facilitate this collaboration, which will not only strengthen India’s position as a global hub for creative technologies but also nurture future-ready talent, drive innovation, and create pathways for sustainable growth in the sector.”
This partnership marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to empower its creative talent pool and accelerate growth within the AVGC-XR industries, aligning closely with government initiatives to bolster the country’s digital economy and creative innovation.
