Jimmy Kimmel recently opened up about how he discovered the temporary suspension of his late-night show, *Jimmy Kimmel Live!*. The comedian shared the experience during an appearance on *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert*, describing it as an “emotional rollercoaster.”

### The Unexpected Call

Kimmel explained that the decision to suspend the show came after he made controversial comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s death. Recounting the moment, he said, “It was around 3:00. We tape our show at 4:30,” when he received an unexpected phone call from ABC executives.

Joking about the unusual timing, Kimmel added, “As far as I knew, they didn’t even know I was doing a show previous to this.”

Seeking privacy, Kimmel took the call in the bathroom, where he was informed that ABC wanted to temporarily suspend the show due to concerns about his remarks on Kirk’s assassination.

### Comedian’s Response: “I Lost the Vote”

During the conversation, ABC executives expressed their wish to “take the temperature down” amid worries about what Kimmel might say on air. Kimmel opposed the suspension, saying, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” However, the network insisted, leading to a vote — and, as Kimmel put it, “I lost the vote.”

Following this, Kimmel informed his executive producers of the show’s suspension.

### Family Reacts to the Suspension News

Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney—who is also an executive producer on the show—remarked that he looked “whiter than Jim Gaffigan.” Reflecting on the moment, Kimmel told Colbert, “I thought that’s it. It’s over. I’m never coming back on the air.”

The comedian also shared his children’s reactions: his daughter offered to sell her Labubu dolls to help, while his son ran around the house naked, adding a touch of humor to an otherwise stressful situation.

### The Show’s Comeback

Just five days after the suspension, Disney announced that *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* would return to ABC. The media company explained that it had suspended the show “to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” labeling some of Kimmel’s comments as “ill-timed and thus insensitive.”

Upon his return to air, Kimmel did not hold back, taking repeated jabs at President Donald Trump and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.

Jimmy Kimmel’s candid account highlights the challenges and complexities that come with navigating commentary in today’s politically charged media landscape.
