Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Preaches Patience Amid Team Rebuild, Looks to Quinnen Williams for Leadership
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has recently reiterated the importance of patience as the team works to turn things around. Emphasizing the need to build a solid foundation before consistent winning can happen, Glenn acknowledged that this message can be challenging to convey—especially to veteran players like defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Now in his seventh NFL season, Williams has yet to experience the playoffs, making the call for patience a difficult conversation. “Those are the hardest conversations to have, especially when you’re talking to a group of young guys and getting them to understand that, man, there has to be a foundation that has to be set, and before you can consistently win,” Glenn explained.
Glenn stressed the importance of laying groundwork, something he has experienced firsthand with previous teams like New Orleans and Detroit, as well as during his playing days. “I keep saying that word because there’s things you have to do to consistently win, and before you can do that, there are things, there’s groundwork that has to be laid,” he said.
Addressing Williams specifically, Glenn highlighted the defensive tackle’s critical role in the Jets’ future success. “He’s a huge part of what we’re doing, and his leadership will continually help with that,” Glenn said.
The coach tries to steer Williams’ focus toward the leadership role he can play in the team’s turnaround. “So, kind of directing that message more on, man, your leadership, the way that you operate, the way that you influence the other guys,” Glenn continued. “And I know that you’ve been in the league seven years, but who says we can’t get this thing going by this week? Who says we can’t get this thing going by this week going into next year? Because I’ve experienced that.”
Glenn shared examples from his own career to demonstrate how teams can bounce back, noting, “We started 0-10-1, 3-13, listen that’s not good. We started 1-6 at the beginning of the season, then we go 8-2, end up 9-8, that’s a turnaround, and we’re fighting for the playoffs, so that’s a meaningful game for him to be a part of.”
He also urged fans and players alike to remain hopeful: “Just like I tell the fans, like I tell you guys: Don’t let go of the rope, because there’s still a lot more time to get this thing done, and we’re building the foundation to make sure there’s stability in what we’re doing. I understand we’re 0-6, I’m with you, but we’re trying to build something and move forward.”
Jets Roster Updates Ahead of Sunday’s Game

Linebacker Ja’Markis Weston has been activated from injured reserve, while cornerback Korie Black and linebacker Jackson Sirmon have been elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
Disciplinary Actions from Last Week’s Game
Following last week’s game against the Denver Broncos, fullback Andrew Beck was fined $7,431 for unnecessary roughness related to helmet use, and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa was fined $5,215 for an unnecessary roughness penalty involving a hip drop tackle.
