Fernando Cruz was all fired up after escaping Yankees’ seventh-inning jam

The roar—and all of the subsequent roaring—from Fernando Cruz said it all.

Trent Grisham tracked down Trevor Story’s fly ball deep in center field for the final out of the inning, escaping a bases-loaded jam with two outs still needed. Cruz, who has emerged as a reliable piece of the Yankees bullpen this season, was fired up on his way back to the dugout.

The Puerto Rican reliever gave up just one hit in his inning of work, throwing eight of his 14 pitches for strikes during the frame.

Cruz came on in relief of Carlos Rodon, who unraveled to start the inning by throwing eight consecutive balls, ending his night prematurely. Rodon finished with three earned runs on his ledger, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings.

Thanks to Cruz’s strong effort, the score remained tied at 3-3.
