Does Jeremy Allen White Actually Sing In Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere?

Another year, another musician biopic. In 2025, we’re treated to the story of the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, in *Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere*.

A question that often arises with these kinds of movies is: **Did the actor really sing?** It’s always impressive when the answer is “yes,” though sometimes the reality is a bit more complicated. For example, in *Bohemian Rhapsody*, Rami Malek technically sang, but his vocals were blended with Freddie Mercury’s and another singer’s in order to match Mercury’s extraordinary vocal range.

So, what about Jeremy Allen White in the Springsteen biopic? Did he actually sing? The answer is yes. White confirmed that he sings throughout the film. In an interview with *GQ*, he shared how he watched numerous videos of Springsteen to nail his speech patterns and overall presence.

> “It’s really great to go down a YouTube rabbit hole and find him at all these different periods in his life and be able to listen to his speaking voice as well as his singing voice,” White explained. “That’s kind of been the deal, just listening to him a lot and watching him a lot.”

Many of Springsteen’s iconic songs are featured in the movie with White’s own voice. However, the intense screaming required for performing “Born in the U.S.A.” took a toll on the actor—he lost his voice for several days after recording that track.

White is no stranger to putting in the work for his roles. He also underwent rigorous culinary training for his role in *The Bear*, showcasing his dedication and commitment to authenticity.

Portraying a living legend in a biopic carries an extra layer of pressure. When the subject is still alive, actors often have the advantage of direct access, allowing them to ask questions and gain deeper insight. But there’s always the question of whether the person portrayed will be pleased with the final product. After all, plenty of celebrities have expressed disappointment with biopics about their lives.

Fortunately, Springsteen himself had full confidence in Jeremy Allen White. In a conversation with *The Guardian*, Springsteen recalled what it was like visiting the set and seeing his life come to life on screen. He would often drop by during filming, though there was a moment when White requested some space to find his footing.

White told *Interview* magazine:

> “I was like, ‘If I could just have a little bit of space to try and find my footing.’ He was like, ‘I totally understand. Not a problem.’ I think he was gone for two days, and then he came back and he was like, ‘How was that space?’”

Springsteen made it clear that White had his full support throughout the process. Having seen White’s impressive work in *The Bear*, he was confident in the actor’s talent. More importantly, Springsteen appreciated that White’s performance wasn’t simply an impression.

> “His performance was totally from the inside out, not just picking elements and wearing them like clothes,” Springsteen explained. “It’s a non-imitative performance, but somehow it greatly relates to my story and myself.”

While *Looper’s* review of *Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere* leaned negative, at least the Boss himself is happy with how he was portrayed on screen. For fans of Springsteen and biopics alike, this film offers an intimate and heartfelt look into the life of a rock legend—sung entirely by Jeremy Allen White.
