Bombay HC Upholds Life Sentence For Software Engineer In 2008 Pune Ex-Girlfriend Murder Case

**Bombay High Court Upholds Life Sentence for Software Engineer in 2008 Pune Murder Case**

**Mumbai:** The Bombay High Court has upheld the conviction and life sentence imposed on a software engineer for the 2008 “brutal” murder of his former girlfriend and colleague in Pune. The court described the case as a brutal homicidal death of a young woman, driven by extreme hatred, jealousy, and vengeance.

### Appeal Dismissed

A bench comprising Justices Girish Kulkarni and Advait Sethna, on September 26, dismissed the appeal filed by Mohinder Madhuresh, a resident of Madhya Pradesh. Madhuresh had challenged a December 2016 sessions court order convicting him of murder and sentencing him to life imprisonment.

### Court Remarks on the Conduct

In dismissing the plea, the High Court remarked,
*“This is an unfortunate case where ordinary human conduct of sensible and rational behavior is subjugated by emotions of hostility and cruelty, reducing a human being to inhuman and demonic tendencies, leading to the commission of a grave crime.”*

### Details of the Crime

According to the prosecution, on October 20, 2008, the accused killed the victim, Khushbu Mishra, in her flat in Pune.

### Background of Victim and Accused

Both Madhuresh and Khushbu were 22 years old at the time and had moved to Pune after securing jobs there. They were allegedly in a relationship during their college days in Madhya Pradesh.

### Harassment After Breakup

After relocating to Pune, the victim ended the relationship due to differences, which enraged Madhuresh. Following the breakup, he allegedly began harassing and threatening her.

### Office Complaints Ignored

The court noted that Khushbu had complained to their employer about Madhuresh’s harassment. Although he was reprimanded, the harassment reportedly continued.

### Motive Confirmed by High Court

The bench upheld Madhuresh’s conviction, observing that the prosecution presented a comprehensive chain of circumstances proving his guilt beyond doubt. The court emphasized that the motive behind the offence was anger and jealousy, stemming from the victim’s decision to break off the relationship.
