‘Grow a spine’: ‘Everyday Americans’ bash ultra-powerful figures who are caving to Trump

A recent report by the Financial Times, by national editor and columnist Edward Luce, revealed that President Donald Trump’s “supremacy” is so significant that he has managed to scare some of the most powerful people in America. “What has changed is simple: people are scared of crossing Trump this time,” Luce wrote. “In researching this piece, I interviewed dozens of figures, including lawmakers, private sector executives, retired senior military figures and intelligence chiefs, current and former Trump officials, Washington lawyers and foreign government officials. Such is the fear of jail, bankruptcy or professional reprisal, that most of these people insisted on anonymity. This was in spite of the fact that many of the same people also wanted to emphasise that Trump would only be restrained by powerful voices opposing him publicly. At times, it has felt like trying to report on politics in Turkey or Hungary.”That one excerpt prompted significant backlash from those who have been unafraid to stand up to Trump and reinforce their beliefs. “I cannot make this clear enough,” began national security lawyer Bradley P. Moss. “I have not stayed silent. Others, who face far greater and graver threats than me, have not stayed silent. There are plenty who are standing up, from everyday Americans to the expert ‘elites’. Those who are caving shall be shamed for all time.””Approximately seven million people were out in the streets protesting last week. These people need to grow a spine,” Atlantic law and democracy writer Quinta Jurecic wrote on Bluesky. “Important piece from Ed Luce in the FT today. From today’s vantage point, Trump’s first term looks like a model of constitutional restraint,” Tech Policy Press editor and CEO Justin Hendrix wrote. “Tough and chilling, but important read here,” pointed out UMBC political scientist Tom Schaller.Jaso Sattler, longtime progressive influencer and political satirist LOLGOP, commented, “This, from Ed Luce, is such clarity on what our current crisis has in common with the War on Terror and the Great Recession: the elites suck at assessing the real risks to their comfort. And they’d rather go down with Trump than be caught opposing him.”Read the full column here. Continue reading ‘Grow a spine’: ‘Everyday Americans’ bash ultra-powerful figures who are caving to Trump

‘Republicans might get wiped out’ because Trump is trapped in a ‘bubble’: MSNBC panel

A combination of Donald Trump’s obsession with building his White House ballroom and staying out of the government shutdown impasse while withholding funds from battleground states, is setting the Republican Party up for a fall in next year’s midterms, analysts say. According to the members of an MSNBC panel on Friday morning, Oval Office insiders are claiming the president is “super distracted” and seems to have no idea that he is placing his party in peril as polls show Democrats gaining more and more support. According to “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough, polling out of Virginia, which has been heavily impacted by the government shutdown, indicates, “Republicans may get wiped out there.”“Up in New Jersey, Donald Trump is bragging about slashing funding and ending the Hudson River tunnel, right?” he continued. “So he’s bragging about making New Jersey residents commute more hellish. That’s impacting what? The New Jersey governor’s race and so [Democrat] Mikie Sherrill is being helped out by Donald Trump right now because he continues to brag about killing that project.”“Tell me what are you hearing from the White House? They have to understand this is bad for them in Jersey. This is bad for them in Virginia. This is bad for them across the country,” he asked co-host Jonathan Lemire.“White House aides, as I’ve been reporting on this show, have been privately saying to me for ten days or so now they think, ‘Oh, the end is in sight, he president’s going to step in and get this done,’” Lemire replied before adding, “The issue is, as I’ve been hearing the last 24 hours, the president’s not really paying attention.”“Because Joe is right,” he told the panel. “The president, you know, people, even his critics will say has a good read of the room. Like he understands what issues are important, what’s resonating with folks. He’s missing this. And it’s about the bubble that he’s in, it would seem. And every day this goes on is worse for Republicans. But of course, more than anything, worse for Americans and he still is, at least nominally, the president of all of us.”Asked what she is hearing, contributor Katty Kay offered, “I mean, even for a president who has an enormous amount of energy across a broad range of subjects, the reports I’ve had from people who have gone into the Oval Office and seen him recently, are that he is super distracted at the moment, that trying to get him to focus on one particular policy issue is very difficult, is very difficult. He’s talking about the renovations of the white house. He’s talking about the Lincoln Bedroom.”“He’s not a president who is particularly, you know, nailed in on one particular issue,” she added. Trump hit with brutal real-time fact check after insisting report was ‘not accurate’

President Donald Trump recently denied reports that he deployed B-1 bombers to Venezuela amid escalating tensions with the South American country. But journalists are now proving him wrong in real time. During a Thursday press gaggle, Trump was asked directly about the deployment of two B-1 Lancer jets, which the Wall Street Journal reported earlier in the day flew from Dyess Air Force Base in Texas toward the Venezuelan coast (though they remained in international airspace). The Journal cited both an unnamed U. S. official and flight tracking data to confirm the deployment.”No, it’s not accurate,” Trump told CBS reporter Kathryn Watson when asked about the jets. However, CNN reporter Natasha Bertrand fact-checked Trump’s denial, writing: “They were easily viewable on flight radar and have been tracked by open source analysts for most of the day. At its closest point a B1 bomber was a little more than 50 miles from the Venezuelan mainland.”Bertrand also tagged fellow CNN reporter Avery Schmitz, who regularly tracks flight radar. Last week, Schmitz posted radar images of B-52 bombers flying near the Venezuelan coast, just 48 miles from a Venezuelan archipelago with several thousand residents. On Thursday, Reuters reporter Idrees Ali reported that Trump suggested there could be “land action” in Venezuela soon, suggesting potential airstrikes on Venezuelan soil. However, as of Thursday there have been no formal plans announced to ramp up military operations in South America. Trump has been vocal in his opposition to Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, particularly as his administration is carrying out bombings of boats the president alleges are carrying drugs. To date, no details have yet been shared with Congress or the public beyond what Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has relayed. In response to a reporter’s question about Maduro’s offer to have mediation sessions with the Trump administration, Trump has said that Maduro “doesn’t want to f– around with the United States.”. Steve Bannon drops stunning prediction about 2028: ‘There’s a plan’

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon made a stunning prediction about President Donald Trump’s chances of running again in 2028 during an interview with The Economist on Thursday. Bannon, who hosts the MAGA podcast “The War Room,” said during the interview that Trump is an “instrument of divine will” and that the country needs him to be president for “at least one more term.” Trump has made passing remarks about running again in 2028, but some have speculated that he won’t run because of his old age. “Well, he’s going to get a third term, so Trump ’28. Trump is going to be president in 2028,” Bannon said. “But what about the 22nd Amendment?” Zanny Minton Beddoes, editor-in-chief of The Economist, asked, referring to the amendment that limits presidential terms to two. ‘There are many different alternatives for 2028, but people haven’t accommodated them yet,” Bannon said. “There are many different alternatives. At the appropriate time, we will lay out the plan, but there’s a plan, and President Trump will be president in 2028. The country needs him to be president of the United States, and we need him to finish what we’ve started,” he continued. “And the way we finish it is through Trump. He’s a vehicle of divine providence.”. Continue reading Steve Bannon drops stunning prediction about 2028: ‘There’s a plan’

‘Most beautiful ballroom anywhere!’ Trump’s project just got an eye-popping new price tag

The cost of President Donald Trump’s ballroom addition to the White House has gone up, from its original stated price of $200 million to nearly double that, the president admitted while speaking to reporters on Thursday.”Have you raised the full $300 million needed to fund your ballroom, and how much specifically are you donating to this construction?” asked a reporter.”Actually, we raised, I think, $350 million, all donor money, and money that we put up, uh, we’ve raised, it’s going to be, it’s going to cost right in the neighborhood of $300 million,” said Trump. “It’s been expanded and made, absolutely, it’ll be the most beautiful ballroom anywhere in the world, I think. And how much specifically are you donating to it personally?” reporters followed up.”How much am I donating? I won’t be able to tell you until I finish, but I’ll donate whatever is needed. I’ll tell you that,” said Trump. The ballroom project, which has already resulted in demolition work on parts of the East Wing despite previous promises it would not alter any existing structure, has triggered outrage from observers who fear Trump is reshaping the White House too aggressively in his own image, as well as those angry he is focusing on a vanity project for his own residence at a moment when the federal government is shut down over a standoff about extending health care funding for millions of people.
