Alan Dye, design lead of Apple’s much-touted Liquid Glass is leaving the company

A major executive shake-up appears to be underway at Apple, as Alan Dye, the former Vice President of Human Interface Design and lead design executive on the company’s Liquid Glass initiative, announces his departure after more than 19 years with the tech giant.

Dye is reportedly moving to Meta, where he will spearhead a new design studio focused on the integration of hardware, software, and AI for Meta’s interfaces. In this role, he will report directly to Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth.

Following Dye’s exit, veteran Apple designer Stephen Lemay is expected to take over his position. Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared a statement regarding this transition, highlighting Lemay’s experience and the company’s confidence in his leadership moving forward.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, also commented on the new design studio’s purpose and future plans, emphasizing the company’s commitment to innovation at the intersection of hardware, software, and AI technologies.

This executive movement signals significant strategic shifts within both tech giants as they continue to evolve their product design and user interface approaches.
