Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, is promoting women’s sports through different platforms. He founded “Athlos,” which is a women-only track and field event. Moreover, he is also investing in different women’s professional leagues across the world. However, Ohanian is not doing it for charity. He believes that just like men’s sports have billion-dollar valuation teams, women’s sports teams can also reach such valuations. Recently, during an interview with Yahoo Finance, Ohanian shared his bullish take on women’s sports. He said: “And I think there is still so much more room to grow in women’s sports. I think we will absolutely see billion-dollar women’s sports teams. My tweet about how undervalued women’s professional sports were in March of ’19 went viral for all the wrong reasons, right? I said, ‘This is a massive opportunity.’ “I said I was going to either start or buy an NWSL team — a professional women’s soccer team — and that one day it was going to be worth billions. And most people said I was an idiot, that no one watches women’s sports, and that it would never work. And I said, ‘Save those tweets.'” However, some fans trolled the Reddit Co-Founder for his take on women’s sports future. On Sunday, Ohanian shared a screenshot of all the hate comments he has been receiving following his remarks. Several users questioned the sustainability, revenue, and entertainment value of women’s leagues. Instead of backing down, Ohanian revealed that he feasts on the negativity. He wrote: “Tbh I love that y’all haters are still here. I feast on your tears.” Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian putting his money where his mouth is Alexis Ohanian is not only big talk when it comes to his words on women’s sports. He himself has invested in several women’s sports teams and has a reason to believe that such professional leagues are in for massive valuation in the near future. Ohanian was a founding investor of Angel City FC in the NWSL. He has also launched Athlos NYC to give track and field athletes a platform to showcase their potential instead of just waiting for marquee events. Moreover, according to CNBC, Ohanian has invested £20 million into Chelsea Women’s FC for a 10% stake. Ohanian’s wife, Serena Williams, is also big when it comes to equal pay among men and women in tennis. As such, the couple is using their platform to raise awareness regarding the potential that lies in women’s sports.
