Lions put Sam LaPorta on injured reserve

The Detroit Lions have ruled out tight end Sam LaPorta for their upcoming Sunday game against the Philadelphia Eagles. On Friday, the team announced that LaPorta would miss the game, and by Saturday, they confirmed he would be sidelined for at least three more weeks.

LaPorta has been placed on injured reserve due to a back injury, making him ineligible to return to action until Week 15 at the earliest. This move was part of several roster changes the Lions made on Saturday afternoon.

With LaPorta out, Brock Wright and Ross Dwelley remain as the only tight ends on the Lions’ active roster. In other roster news, the team released defensive lineman Pat O’Connor and signed offensive lineman Michael Niese to the 53-man roster.

Additionally, wide receivers Tom Kennedy and Jackson Meeks have been elevated from the practice squad in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Eagles.
