The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a bye week and face brutal back-to-back tests on the road against the Denver Broncos in Week 11 and at home against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12. Both opponents hold 8-2 records in the AFC, tied for the best in the NFL.
Ahead of the league’s trade deadline on November 4, Kansas City explored potential upgrades to their roster but ultimately did not make any significant moves. One position the Chiefs were particularly focused on was running back, although they declined to meet the New York Jets’ asking price of a third-round draft pick in exchange for Breece Hall.
As a result, the Chiefs will rely on Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt to continue sharing the offensive backfield workload down the stretch of the season and into the playoffs—assuming Kansas City secures a postseason berth come January.
The lack of an addition to the running back room became more concerning on Monday when Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided a brief but worrisome injury update on Pacheco. When asked if Pacheco would return to practice this week, Reid stated, “I’ll have to see on Pacheco.”
Pacheco suffered an MCL sprain during the October 27 contest against the Washington Commanders and subsequently sat out the following game against the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs’ bye week arrived at an opportune time for the fourth-year running back, giving him extra recovery time; however, that additional rest does not guarantee his availability for the crucial divisional matchup against the Broncos this weekend.
