**Woman Killed, Two Children Injured in Head-On Crash in Gurnee**
GURNEE, Ill. (WLS) — A tragic accident occurred Sunday night when a driver lost control of their vehicle on a patch of ice in the north suburbs, resulting in one woman’s death and injuries to two children.
According to Gurnee police, the crash happened at approximately 8:54 p.m. on Grand Avenue over Interstate 94. A 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, traveling westbound on Grand Avenue, attempted to change lanes. Due to winter weather conditions, the vehicle is believed to have struck a patch of ice, causing it to lose control.
The Suburban crossed over the center median and entered the eastbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2007 Ford Focus. The impact forced the Ford Focus off the roadway and into a ditch.
The driver of the Ford Focus, a 29-year-old woman from Evanston, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released her identity.
Injuries were also reported to a 29-year-old woman from Waukegan and her two children—a 5-year-old son and an 8-month-old daughter. They were transported to area hospitals, though their current conditions have not been disclosed.
No other injuries were reported. Gurnee police, along with the Major Crash Assistance Team, are actively investigating the crash.
