NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Drew Scharnowski scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Belmont to an 87-79 victory over Tennessee State on Saturday night.
Sam Orme contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, while Tyler Lundblade also added 14 points for the Bruins (2-0).
Tennessee State (1-1) was paced by Dante Harris, who recorded 21 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Travis Harper II chipped in 15 points, and Aaron Nkrumah added 14 points along with four steals.
Belmont held a slim lead at halftime, 34-32, with Brigham Rogers scoring eight points before the break to lead the Bruins. The Bruins took control for good with 16:15 remaining in the second half on a dunk by Scharnowski that put them ahead 42-40.
