Civilization 7 Update 1.3.0 patch notes improve sea gameplay & make expansion free to claim

Civilization has received a significant update this week, bringing exciting changes to the game’s sea gameplay alongside a limited-time free expansion pack offer.

The general update, dubbed Civilization 7 Update 1.3, introduces a comprehensive overhaul of water gameplay. This includes revamping sea combat, resource gathering, spawning, and navigation. Coastal tiles have been heavily redesigned to provide more rewarding outputs, enhancing the strategic value of maritime territories.

One of the standout features of this update is the revamped navigation mechanics involving the Privateer unit. Accessible by all civilizations, the Privateer can now attack, defend, and plunder trade routes early in the game, adding new layers of depth to naval strategy.

Complementing these gameplay improvements is the newly released Tides of Power Collection expansion, available for free until January 5, 2026. This expansion introduces the infamous pirate Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. Players can also choose to start their game as the Republic of Pirates civilization, featuring unique abilities and playstyle.

In addition to Blackbeard and the Republic of Pirates, the expansion adds Sayyida al Hurra and the Ottomans to the roster, joining existing civilizations like Iceland and Tonga. Four new Wonders have also been introduced, further enriching the game’s diversity and strategic options.

After January 5, 2026, the Tides of Power Collection will be available for purchase at $30. However, all current Civilization 7 owners can claim the expansion free of charge on their preferred platform until that date. Firaxis Games is offering this as a gesture of appreciation to fans who have supported Civilization 7 throughout its journey.

Stay tuned and dive into the refreshed waters of Civilization 7 with this exciting update and expansion!
