Star Wars: New Update on Ben Solo Movie Makes Cancellation Even Sadder

More information about the scrapped Ben Solo movie has recently come to light, revealing a notable first for the Star Wars universe, as shared by writer-director Steven Soderbergh.

In a recent post on his Bluesky account, Soderbergh revealed that his planned movie with Adam Driver, titled *The Hunt for Ben Solo*, was quite far along in development. In fact, he had a finished script, which they submitted for approval to Disney but ultimately faced rejection.

According to Soderbergh, he asked producer Kathleen Kennedy if Lucasfilm had ever turned in a completed movie script for greenlighting by Disney and had it rejected. Kennedy confirmed that this was the first time such a thing had happened in Star Wars history.

> “In the aftermath of the [Hunt for Ben Solo] situation, I asked Kathy Kennedy if LFL had ever turned in a finished movie script for greenlight to Disney and had it rejected. She said no, this was a first,” Soderbergh said.

Since the initial discovery of the project, more details have emerged. A recent report from The Playlist revealed that the movie was much more than a concept and had even entered early preparation stages before Disney decided to pass on it.

Jeff Sneider of The InSneider also added that Lucasfilm currently has no plans to revisit the character of Kylo Ren/Ben Solo.

In a separate interview with the Associated Press, Adam Driver shared insights into the project, revealing that acclaimed filmmaker Steven Soderbergh had tried to develop a solo Kylo Ren movie set after *The Rise of Skywalker*. Driver described the script as one of the coolest he had ever read.

However, the idea was ultimately shelved because Disney’s CEO Bob Iger was unconvinced about how Ben Solo could have survived the events of *The Rise of Skywalker*, where the character dies at the film’s conclusion.

This historic rejection marks a rare moment in Star Wars filmmaking, highlighting the complexities involved in expanding the saga’s storytelling beyond the established narrative arcs.
