Deepika Jha, DUSU Joint Secretary, Vows To Prioritise Women’s Safety And Student Welfare

DUSU Elections Result 2025: ABVP’s Deepika Jha Commits to Women’s Security and Campus Infrastructure

Deepika Jha, the ABVP candidate who won the Joint Secretary seat in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) 2025 elections, has pledged to prioritise women’s security and infrastructure improvements on campus. The 22-year-old hails from Bihar and previously studied at Lakshmibai College before pursuing further education in the Department of Buddhist Studies.

Focus on Women’s Safety

Speaking to Free Press Journal after her victory, Deepika revealed that her top agenda item is the launch of a special women’s safety app. This app will enable female students to report any safety concerns or harassment issues directly to the union, allowing for immediate response and support.

“Whenever any girl has any issue, she can express the matter to us via this app,” Deepika explained. While the app is still in development, she assured FPJ that work on it will begin shortly.

FPJ Stance on Menstrual Leave Protest

Deepika also shared her views on the recent NSUI protest demanding 12 days of menstrual leave for female students, describing the idea as disempowering. “I think a girl is like the shape of Goddess Durga. If you think a Durga is incapable enough to require 12 days out during periods, then that is not right to me,” she stated.

She emphasised strength and resilience, saying, “I am a girl and I can stand strong, whether day or night, whether during periods or otherwise. Girls should have this spirit because we worship Goddess Kamakhya.”

Beyond Student Politics

Aside from her role in student politics, Deepika is actively involved in ABVP’s Students for Seva program, which focuses on student-driven social transformation. Her initiatives include organising community schools and participating in the Ritumati campaign, aimed at raising awareness about menstrual hygiene.

As the newly elected Joint Secretary of DUSU, Deepika Jha told FPJ that she hopes to blend activism and student leadership to create a safer and stronger university environment for women. She also plans to establish long-term welfare programs to benefit the student community.
