New Zealand women’s cricket team opener Suzie Bates was dismissed for a duck in her side’s Women’s ODI World Cup match against South Africa at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Bates fell for a first-ball duck, with South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp trapping her leg before wicket off the very first delivery of New Zealand’s innings.

This marked Bates’ second consecutive duck in the ongoing World Cup. She had earlier opened her 2025 campaign with a nine-ball duck against Australia while chasing 327, dismissed by Sophie Molineux in the second over.

In the current match against South Africa, Kapp bowled a good-length, angling delivery that Bates missed, resulting in her being hit on the pads and given out lbw.

### 11th Duck in Women’s ODIs

According to ESPNcricinfo, this dismissal was Bates’ 11th duck in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs). Playing her 173rd match and 166th innings, Bates has amassed 5,896 runs with her batting average now dropping below 40. This is also her second duck against South Africa Women in ODIs.

### Making History with 350 International Matches

In a historic milestone, Suzie Bates became the first player in women’s cricket history to feature in 350 international matches. Bates has represented New Zealand Women 173 times in ODIs and played 177 T20 Internationals for the White Ferns.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur is next on the list of most international appearances with 342 matches, followed closely by Australia’s Ellyse Perry with 341 appearances.
