Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara delivered a match-winning performance against Afghanistan in Match 11 of the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 held in Abu Dhabi. Thushara produced impressive bowling figures of 4 wickets for 18 runs from his 4 overs, helping Sri Lanka restrict Afghanistan to 169/8 in their 20 overs.

Opening the bowling for Sri Lanka, Thushara struck early, taking two wickets in his second over. He dismissed opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz and then bowled out Karim Janat. Continuing his excellent form, he claimed the wicket of Sediqullah Atal in his third over during the powerplay. Thushara then secured his fourth wicket with the very first ball of the 17th over.

This performance marked Thushara’s third four-wicket haul in T20 Internationals and his fifth four-for overall in T20 cricket. With this latest effort, he has reached 35 wickets from 25 T20I matches at an average of 18.28. Across all T20 matches, Thushara has taken 169 wickets in 127 games at an average of 19.71, including two five-wicket hauls.

Against Afghanistan specifically, Thushara has been particularly successful, bagging 8 wickets at an impressive average of 10.37 across three T20Is. Notably, he has two four-wicket hauls against the Afghans.

With this feat, Thushara became just the second Sri Lankan pacer to take a four-wicket haul in the Men’s T20 Asia Cup, following Pramod Madushan, who achieved this against Pakistan in 2022.

Nuwan Thushara’s consistent performances continue to bolster Sri Lanka’s bowling attack as they chase success in the T20 Asia Cup.
