“The defendant raped a close young female relative hundreds of times during a five-year period,” Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said. A New Bedford man was sentenced to up to 45 years in prison on Friday for raping a young relative “hundreds of times,” prosecutors said. Daniel Turcios Torres, 46, was sentenced to 36 to 45 years in state prison followed by ten years of probation, the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a press release. Turcios Torres was charged with rape, rape of a child aggravated by age, rape of a child by force, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child over 14, and witness intimidation, the office of District Attorney Thomas Quinn said. In July 2024, the victim who was 17 at the time went to New Bedford police and reported the years of assaults, Quinn’s office said. The young girl told police she began living with Turcios Torres after she and some family members moved to the United States from Ecuador in 2019. She was only 12 years old at the time, the DA said. Shortly after Turcios Torres began assaulting the victim, prosecutors said. The victim shared numerous incidents of “indecent touching” and accounts of rape by “penile penetration” by Turcios Torres, the DA’s said. If she refused the attacks, the victim said, Turcios Torres would restrict her or punish her “physically,” prosecutors said. Turcios Torres also allegedly forced the victim to take birth control to prevent pregnancy, while he would not wear a condom, the DA said. Two or three years before reporting the rapes to police, the girl told family members about the incidents. However, Turcios Torres intimidated her, claiming her family and siblings would be separated and sent back to Honduras, Quinn’s office said. After his threats, victim renounced her statements, Quinn’s office said. Sometime during the period of abuse, an adult family member witnessed Turcios Torres kissing the victim in her room and touching her leg. Another time, they saw Torres go into the victim’s room and lock her door after a drunken night out, Quinn’s office said. When Turcios Torres was confronted about going into the victim’s room, he claimed it was a mistake, the DA said. Turcios Torres, originally from Honduras, will serve his prison sentence and then be “subject to an ICE detainer,” the DA said. An attorney for Turcios Torres did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday night. “I commend the victim for her courage in testifying against her father and going through a most difficult ordeal. I hope she can move forward with her life. She did nothing wrong,”” Quinn said in the release.
