Time to mourn, time to embrace, time to heal on LA wildfires’ anniversary: A list of public events

1-Year Anniversary of the Eaton and Palisades Fires: Commemorative Events

As the first anniversary of the Eaton and Palisades fires approaches, several community events are scheduled to honor those affected, celebrate resilience, and support ongoing recovery efforts. Below is a list of key events organized across Altadena, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and surrounding areas.

January 4 — Altadena Forever Run

A tribute to those who lost their homes, those who helped in the recovery, and those still rebuilding, the Altadena Forever Run features a 10K Run, 5K Walk/Run, and 1K Family Walk/Run. Although registration is now closed, the public is encouraged to cheer on participants along the route starting at 8 a.m. (for the 10K run).

This event honors Altadena’s resilience and supports long-term recovery as a fundraiser for residents impacted by the Eaton Fire. Proceeds from the event and donations to the associated GoFundMe benefit the Altadena Eaton Fire Relief Fund and the Sheriff’s Support Group of Altadena.

January 6 — Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church Prayer Services

The Rev. Matt Hardin will lead an evening prayer service at 7 p.m. at Brentwood Presbyterian Church (12000 San Vicente Blvd., Brentwood).

Additionally, a morning prayer gathering will take place at 8 a.m. the following day (January 7) at the church’s destroyed campus site located at 15821 Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades.

January 7 — Eaton Fire Remembrance

La Cañada Presbyterian Church will host “grief stations” throughout the day, culminating in a worship service at 6:30 p.m.

Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine invites visitors for a Day of Remembrance and Renewal. The restored gardens will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for peaceful contemplation. A moment of silence will be observed every hour, signaled by a gong.

No reservations are required. The Lake Shrine, founded by Paramahansa Yogananda, has been a place of solace since 1950.

They Let Us Burn Rally
A non-partisan demonstration calling for fairness, accountability, and a vision for the rebuild will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Palisades Village, 15307 Antioch St. (corner of Swarthmore Avenue), Pacific Palisades.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church and School
A noon gathering will commemorate the Palisades fire on the church school steps at 890 Toyopa Drive. Later, at 7 p.m., Rev. Msgr. Liam Kidney will celebrate a Mass of Remembrance and Reflection at St. Monica Catholic Church, 725 California Ave., Santa Monica.

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church
Concerts of remembrance, healing, and renewal feature community prayers at noon and 6 p.m., with concerts at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The concerts will include violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, members of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Pacific Strings.

City of Malibu’s Palisades Fire Remembrance
“Finding Strength in Community — A Healing Moment” includes a Chumash blessing, a moment of silence, a remembrance poem by Malibu’s poet laureate Charlotte Ward, an art gallery tribute, and a memorial area.

Start time: 4 p.m.
Location: Malibu City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road
The formal program (4-5:30 p.m.) will be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.

Community Coalition for Altadena Recovery (CCAR)
A community commemoration event led by LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger will feature remembrances, music, and light refreshments at 5 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine.

Altadena for Accountability is holding a peaceful, silent demonstration simultaneously at 5 p.m. in front of the Grocery Outlet at the same address.

Rise Malibu — A Night to Honor, Remember and Rise Together
The event will feature musical performances and a screening of the documentary “Big Rock Burning” (2025).

A Concert for Altadena
Hosted by John C. Reilly, this concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $150. Performers include Aloe Blacc, Dawes & Friends featuring Eric Krasno, Everclear, Brandon Flowers (The Killers), Jenny Lewis, Lord Huron, Lucius, Mandy Moore, Ozomatli, Brad Paisley, Taboo (Black Eyed Peas), and Rufus Wainwright.

Proceeds benefit the Altadena Builds Back Foundation through the Pasadena Community Foundation’s Eaton Fire Relief and Recovery Fund.

January 9 — Music Center’s Innovation Social

Reflections on Loss, Hope and Renewal invite guests to engage with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality stories, interactive 3D stations documenting personal and environmental narratives from the LA wildfires, and a performance by Evolve Altadena. TreePeople will also distribute acorns.

January 11 — Altadena Candlelight Vigil

Hosted by Kinfolks Helping Hands and Connect 2 Rise, this commemoration of the Eaton Fire includes performances by a children’s choir and the Benn Family (“America’s Got Talent”).
