DALLAS, TX — Texas’ population growth slowed significantly last year amid a nationwide slowdown in the number of newcomers moving to the United States. However, the state still topped the rest of the country in adding new residents, according to new U.S. Census Bureau data.
Texas added 391,243 residents in 2025, the most of any state, bringing the state’s population to 31.7 million, according to census figures released Tuesday. Despite this growth, the Lone Star State grew by 1.2%, marking its slowest growth rate since 2021 after experiencing years of rapid expansion following the COVID-19 pandemic.
This data highlights shifting trends in population movement across the country, with Texas continuing to attract newcomers even as overall growth slows nationwide.
