“Your luck’s going to run out” – Jim Ross worried about top AEW star

Jim Ross has voiced his concern over a top AEW star and his signature high-risk wrestling style. The talent in question, Darby Allin, is currently on the mend after sustaining an injury last month.

Ever since making his long-anticipated comeback at All In: Texas, the daredevil had his sights set on Jon Moxley and The Death Riders for putting him out of commission at the end of 2024. Darby battled the violent faction throughout the second half of the year, culminating in an intense I Quit match against The One True King at WrestleDream 2025—a bout that Moxley shockingly lost.

Allin’s war with the group continued into the 2025 Men’s Blood and Guts match, which led to a singles bout against Pac at AEW Full Gear. Unfortunately for Darby, he was defeated in that encounter. Following this, the former TNT Champion entered this year’s Continental Classic in the Gold League but lost his first block match to Kevin Knight last month on Dynamite: Thanksgiving Eve.

However, during his bout against Kevin Knight (also known as The Jet), Darby reportedly suffered an injury that required hospitalization. As a result, he was replaced in the tournament by Jack Perry.

Although Allin has claimed he is ready to return, AEW veteran Jim Ross recently offered some words of caution on the latest edition of *Grilling JR*. Speaking about a certain breed of wrestlers who often strive to stand out—sometimes at the expense of their bodies and well-being—Ross said:

> “Yeah. And he wasn’t the only one. Guys try to one-up their brethren, their peers, steal the show, blah, blah, blah. Whatever cliché you want to utilize. But yeah, sometimes guys, it’s almost like a panic button: ‘I gotta get noticed, I want to be a star, so I need to do this.’ And Darby is fearless. I love Darby, and for those fans that don’t know him, they would never know what a sweetheart of a guy he is.”

Ross then highlighted the danger inherent in Allin’s high-risk style and issued a grim warning:

> “I worry about him all the time because he never goes into a match without high expectations and a willingness to take a chance. And some of these days, you know, your luck’s going to run out. Because he does things. If you miss it by an inch or two, you’re in trouble. And sometimes he dodges the bullet. Sometimes he doesn’t.”

Reports indicate that AEW did not medically clear Darby to continue competing in the Continental Classic, despite him reportedly passing the company’s tests.

Stepping in for Darby Allin, Jack Perry began his Continental Classic campaign with zero points. He faced off against former Elite stablemate Kazuchika Okada earlier this week on AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming. Unfortunately, Perry was unable to defeat the defending Continental Champion, who secured the victory and earned three more points.

Following the match, Don Callis approached “Jungle” Jack Perry with an offer to join his “family.” Perry refused defiantly, which led to an attack by the stable. The assault was eventually halted when Luchasaurus and The Young Bucks made the save.

As Darby Allin continues his recovery, fans and insiders alike will be watching closely to see how the high-risk wrestler manages his career moving forward.
