Bodies of Rob and Michele Reiner released to family

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has released the bodies of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, to their family. The couple was found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home on Sunday.

Earlier this week, the medical examiner determined that the 78-year-old Hollywood director and his wife died from “multiple sharp force injuries.”

Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested Sunday evening in Exposition Park and faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the killing of his parents.

The 32-year-old Reiner, who has a history of mental health and addiction issues, is due back in court on January 7. During his first court appearance on Wednesday, he was wearing a blue suicide prevention smock and handcuffs.

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell commented on the investigation, saying, “It’s just really beginning at this phase for all of us, the analysis. The technical investigation division does an in-depth and very thorough analysis of all the crime scene evidence. That will be ongoing. So, yeah, it is really truly a team effort.”
