Weld County is looking to identify another vendor for an emergency alert system after the current vendor’s system went offline last week. The county is reviewing its contract with CodeRED, a mobile app used by the county’s public safety communicators to send notifications to local communities, to determine if the extended outage with no communication is a breach of contract, Weld County public information officer Jennifer Finch said. CodeRED sends emergency messages to landlines, registered mobile devices and emails, according to the county’s website. CodeRED was taken offline by Crisis24, Finch said. Crisis24 is a global risk management company that operates a number of public safety platforms, including CodeRED. Crisis24 did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday afternoon. Weld County’s 911 operations are on a different system and are not affected by the outage, Finch said. The county has other methods to alert the public during emergencies. Weld County has a long-standing agreement with the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority to provide back-up if an emergency alert needs to be issued, Finch said. Crisis24 has still not given a reason for CodeRED being taken offline, and the outages have affected several counties that use the system. With the outage, mobile alerts are currently unavailable for subscribers and the system is not accepting new sign-ups.
