Predictable Betrayal: Oklahoma VA Closing Non-Profit Due To Lack Of Funding

Veterans continue to learn just how quickly Donald Trump will turn his back on them. He no longer needs their vote, their support, or their involvement in his MAGA movement—and he doesn’t even have to fake it. It’s predictable betrayal, yet again.

KOCO reports that the group being betrayed this time is the National Association for Black Veterans. This Oklahoma City-based nonprofit will be closing at the end of November due to funding cuts from the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

The organization was built by veterans and for veterans, making its closure an undeniable loss to the community after 23 years of dedicated service. The shutdown comes purely as a result of funding cuts, highlighting how veterans—of all backgrounds—need our support now more than ever.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be a priority for the current administration. KOCO reports that “the closure is part of a larger cut affecting up to 300 programs after the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services reduced contracts to address a budget shortfall.”

It is our hope that those who served can find alternative safe spaces to connect with other veterans. It is critical that they find people who understand their experiences and can provide support.

This situation is truly sad—for the veterans, the community, and everyone who values the sacrifices made by those who served.
