Nick Mangold would’ve been proud of Jets’ fairytale win on ‘very emotional’ tribute day

Jennifer Mangold, tragically a widow for just 14 days, walked out for the coin toss with her four children, ages 7 to 14, amid a hushed football stadium choked with emotion. Anyone who knew Nick Mangold fought back tears as the moment unfolded.

A heartfelt video tribute honored Mangold, who succumbed far too soon to chronic kidney disease. On the field, a green and white jersey replica was placed next to the American flag, accompanied by a photo of the great Jets center behind one of the end zones.

There was also a touching tribute from LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Mangold’s teammate for 10 seasons. Both men were iron men who played with passion and pride, representing the name on the front and back of their jerseys.

Jets players and coaches joined in prayer for Mangold during a solemn moment of silence.

It was fairytale stuff as the Jets won one for Mangold, defeating the Browns 27-20. This victory was much needed following a week of turmoil and heartbreak that saw Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams jettisoned for “Wait Till Next Year.”

Yet, both the team’s personal struggle and their dedication to Mangold can be true.

“We were definitely playing for something bigger than ourselves today for sure,” Isaiah Oliver told The Post.
