General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and ADA Justine Turner’s (Nazneen Contractor) pairing may be the show’s latest romantic flop. The question on many fans’ minds is: does the mob boss belong back with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright)?
GH writers have been trying to push Sonny in a new romantic direction for a while now, but it’s definitely been a challenge. They initially paired Sonny with Natalia Ramirez (Eva LaRue), but that plan fell flat when Natalia’s character got a fatal exit. Clearly, Natalia and Sonny just didn’t work as a couple, so the show moved on by putting ADA Justine Turner in Sonny’s orbit.
Although Sonny and Justine are often scheming against each other beneath all the flirting, they are still making a connection that could lead to temptation. It seemed like Justine and Sonny might have given in to that temptation before the week of November 10-14 ended, but that didn’t happen.
Despite the spark between them, many viewers are struggling to buy into this pairing. Social media reaction has been lukewarm at best, with fans finding Sonny and Justine’s relationship bland and forced. While it’s possible their storyline could find its footing as it progresses, the outlook currently doesn’t seem very hopeful.
This might be another case of a Sonny love interest that doesn’t last long-term. The big question is: what happens when Sonny and Justine inevitably fizzle out? Will GH try introducing another new love interest and hope for a different outcome?
At some point, GH writers might just give in and reunite Sonny with Carly. Love them or hate them, Sonny and Carly share a rich history and have many connections through the people they both care about. Their family link through their children is a bond that can’t be ignored.
Plus, Carly understands how Sonny’s complicated world operates and consistently has his back when it counts. There’s no woman on canvas that Sonny can trust more than Carly, which makes a reunion a compelling possibility. The show may finally decide to stop experimenting with other love interests and bring them back together.
With Carly potentially becoming single after ending things with Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna), the door could open for her to renew a romance with Sonny.
