**Nimsdai Foundation Launches Two Initiatives to Empower Women and Girls in Nepal**
On Monday, November 10, 2025, the Nimsdai Foundation, founded by record-breaking mountaineer Nimsdai Purja MBE, announced two new initiatives that align with their mission to Inspire, Educate, and Protect. These initiatives aim to empower women and girls in Nepal, where gender inequality and menstrual injustice continue to be prevalent.
### Project Shakti: Combating Menstrual Injustice in Western Nepal
One of the initiatives, **Project Shakti**, is a collaboration with Freedom Kit Bags. This project addresses the issue of menstrual injustice in Western Nepal by training local women to make reusable menstrual kits and conducting education workshops.
In some parts of Western Nepal, the practice of *Chhaupadi*—where menstruating women and girls are considered impure and banished from their homes—still exists. This harmful tradition significantly impacts their education and ability to work, perpetuating gender inequality.
Through Project Shakti, the foundation aims to empower women and girls in these communities by providing employment opportunities, promoting dignity, and raising awareness among both men and women. Each reusable menstrual kit costs only £25 and has the power to change a life.
Those interested in supporting this cause can donate through the foundation’s website.
### The Learning Shelter: Renovating the Mahila Feeder Girls Hostel
The second initiative, **The Learning Shelter**, seeks to raise £55,000 to renovate the Mahila Feeder Girls Hostel in Humla—one of Nepal’s most remote and under-resourced regions.
For nearly four decades, this hostel has provided safe accommodation and education to over 900 girls. However, it is now in urgent need of structural repairs to continue its life-changing work. Without these renovations, the hostel will be forced to shut down, depriving girls in the area of access to education.
Donations for this project can also be made through the Nimsdai Foundation’s website.
### A Message from Founder Nimsdai Purja MBE
Founder Nimsdai Purja MBE shared his motivation behind these initiatives, stating:
> “From the mountains to the trails, every step we take together makes a difference. These projects aim to help communities that need it the most.”
