College Football Roundup: Manning leads Texas past Arkansas

AUSTIN Arch Manning threw for a career-best 389 yards and four touchdowns, ran for a score and caught a pass for another as No. 17 Texas dismantled Arkansas 52-37 on Saturday in a Southeastern Conference dustup to keep alive its waning College Football Playoff chances. The Longhorns (8-3, 5-2 SEC) dominated the second half after a back-and-forth start. Manning went 18 of 30 for the day with no interceptions while all three of his passes to DeAndre Moore went for touchdowns. The Razorbacks (2-9, 0-7 SEC) were led by backup signalcaller KJ Jackson, who racked up 206 yards and one touchdown passing along with a late rushing score in relief of the injured Taylen Green. Mike Washington ran for 105 yards and a TD in Arkansas’ ninth straight loss. Texas A&M 48, Samford 0 COLLEGE STATION Marcel Reed threw three touchdown passes and Amari Daniels ran for 106 yards and a score to lead No. 3 Texas A&M to a dominant 48-0 win over Samford on Saturday. Reed completed 10 of 15 passes for 120 yards and threw his three TD passes during a 21-0 first quarter that put the No. 3 Aggies (11-0) on course for the comfortable victory in their regular-season home finale. Texas A&M’s defense did the rest, holding the overmatched Bulldogs (1-11) without a first down in the first half and only 25 total yards over the first two quarters. Samford went 0-for-14 on third downs for the game. SMU 38, LOUISVILLE 6 DALLAS Kevin Jennings had his third consecutive game of at least 300 yards passing and accounted for four touchdowns to keep SMU in the race for the ACC championship with an impressive 38-6 victory over short-handed Louisville on Saturday. The junior quarterback threw for 303 yards and three scores while completing 29 of 37 passed before leaving the game midway through the fourth quarter as the game was well in hand. Jennings was nearly perfect in the first half, going 16 of 18 for 168 yards and two touchdowns. He added a rushing TD as the Mustangs (8-3, 6-1 ACC) built a 21-6 halftime lead over the Cardinals (7-4, 4-4). Eight players caught passes from Jennings, with Jordan Hudson finishing with eight receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown. T. J. Harden ran 18 times for 90 yards for the Mustangs, who racked up 485 total yards against a Louisville defense that entered Saturday allowing 297. 9 yards per game, 15th-best in the nation. Arizona 41, Baylor 17 TUCSON, Ariz. Kedrick Reescano ran for three touchdowns and Arizona posted a shutout in the second half to beat Baylor 41-17 in a Big 12 Conference game Saturday afternoon in Tucson, Ariz. It was the fourth consecutive win for the Wildcats (8-3, 5-3 Big 12) and their sixth of the season at home, tying a school record. They outscored Baylor 27-0 after trailing by three at halftime. TCU 17, Houston 14 HOUSTON Josh Hoover passed for 293 yards and two touchdowns and TCU overcame four turnovers to upset No. 23 Houston 17-14 on Saturday. TCU (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) survived after Houston kicker Ethan Sanchez missed a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter, including a 38-yard attempt he pushed wide left with 46 seconds remaining. The Horned Frogs snapped a 14-14 deadlock with 11: 21 left when Nate McCashland nailed a 29-yard field goal after Jordan Dwyer returned a punt 53 yards to the Houston 29. Hoover tossed three interceptions and the Horned Frogs had two touchdowns negated by penalties. Cougars quarterback Conner Weigman passed for 161 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 114 yards, but Julius Simms picked off Weigman’s fourth-down pass late in the first half in the end zone to preserve the Horned Frogs’ 14-7 halftime lead. Houston (8-3, 5-3) responded to the McCashland field goal by pushing deep into TCU territory only for Sanchez to leave a 49-yard kick short. After Houston’s Latreveon McCutchin made a fourth-down stop at the Cougars’ 5-yard line, Weigman found Amare Thomas for a 23-yard gain before scrambling for 38 yards to set the table for Sanchez, who missed again.
