Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Joe Alt will require season-ending surgery to repair a high ankle sprain he sustained during the team’s 27-20 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
Alt was injured late in the second quarter when he was rolled up from behind by a Tennessee defensive lineman while pass blocking. He was taken off the field on a cart and did not return to the game.
This marks the second time this season that Alt has suffered a high ankle sprain in his right leg. He previously missed three games after sustaining the injury in a loss to the New York Giants on September 28.
Alt, the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, had recently moved from right tackle to left tackle following an injury to Rashawn Slater. Slater tore the patellar tendon in his left leg during practice on August 7.
As a rookie, Alt started 16 games at right tackle, showcasing his versatility and durability before this unfortunate setback.
