Despite holding a 6-3 record this season, the Buffalo Bills’ offense has struggled with consistency throughout 2025, particularly in the passing game. This inconsistency has led to reports suggesting the Bills may consider making a drastic change involving their starting second-year wide receiver, Keon Coleman.
After putting together the best game of his career in the team’s season opener, many believed Coleman was on the path to becoming the unquestioned No. 1 receiver that Bills fans have been searching for since Stefon Diggs’ departure. Unfortunately, that breakout has yet to materialize. Since Week 1, Coleman has not recorded over 50 receiving yards in any single game, prompting Buffalo to explore other options at the position ahead of Sunday’s game.
On Saturday, the Bills activated both Gabe Davis and Mecole Hardman from the practice squad, creating a crowded wide receiver room for their upcoming matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following the decision to activate Davis and Hardman, the Bills will enter Sunday’s game with eight healthy wide receivers. However, it’s likely that only six of the eight will be active for the game. Due to Coleman’s lack of production this year, Alex Brasky of Bills Digest has predicted that the 2024 second-round pick could be the odd man out and made a healthy scratch.
Brasky is not alone in this speculation. Cover 1, a Bills-focused podcast, cited a source with inside knowledge who claimed Coleman will indeed be a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game.
It’s important to note that the organization has not officially confirmed this information. Buffalo’s true intentions regarding Coleman will likely remain unknown until shortly before kickoff Sunday morning.
Still, the elevation of Davis and Hardman could signal that the Bills’ wide receiving corps looks very different in this weekend’s game. It will be interesting to see if these potential changes lead to a more consistent and productive Buffalo offense against Tampa Bay.
