49ers G.M. John Lynch: We weren’t going to get fleeced at trade deadline

The San Francisco 49ers have faced a number of injuries this season, yet they hold a solid 6-3 record. Leading up to the trade deadline, there was speculation that the team might look to strengthen their roster. One player frequently mentioned as a potential target was Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson. However, the deadline passed without the 49ers making any new additions.

Last week, the 49ers did make a move, acquiring Patriots defensive lineman Keion White. General Manager John Lynch also highlighted earlier trades for edge rusher Bryce Huff and running back Brian Robinson as examples of the team’s willingness to act when the price is right.

“We weren’t going to overpay. It’s just not good business,” Lynch said. “And, as they say, sometimes the best deals you do are the ones you don’t do. In this case, as an organization, we felt that was the best course. As I mentioned before, we have a lot of belief in our current roster.”

That belief will be put to the test this weekend when the 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams. A win would not only give San Francisco a season sweep in the two-game series but also provide them with a significant tiebreaker advantage over their divisional rivals.
