Why Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers shouted out Packers fans after ugly home loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Green Bay Packers 35-25 on Sunday Night Football. With the defeat, the Steelers now hold a 4-3 record but are still hanging onto the AFC North lead and maintain their playoff aspirations.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers faced his former team in his first start against the Packers but came up short. Despite the loss, the future Hall of Famer praised the Green Bay fans for their passionate support in Pittsburgh.

“I’ve heard that chant for 18 years,” Rodgers told ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “Packer fans travel really well. First time in a while I’ve used silent count for a home game. That’s a credit to those Packer fans.”

Earlier in the season, Rodgers expressed his desire to dominate the New York Jets, reflecting on his challenging two years in the Meadowlands that ultimately led to his release by the current Jets regime in the offseason.

However, Rodgers maintained before this game that it wasn’t about revenge but rather an opportunity to reconnect with old friends.

“Good to see a lot of people that I grew up with in the league,” he said. “I was out there spending time with some of those guys, and I enjoyed that.”

He added, “The guys that I spent 18 years with, training staff, equipment staff, nutritionist, [pass game specialist] Connor Lewis, who was in our room for a while, [senior assistant] Luke Getsy was there. Guys I spent a lot of time with. Those friendships are special, and it was good to see those guys.”

Despite the loss, Rodgers showed appreciation for the relationships he built during his tenure with the Packers, emphasizing the bond that extends beyond the field.
