The improvements to *Call of Duty: Black Ops 7* began before its beta test earlier this month. Based on player feedback, Treyarch is implementing a number of additional changes that should make the community happy.
Treyarch design director Matt Scronce shared the details in a new Dev Talk video released this afternoon. Some of the key improvements from the beta include aim assist adjustments, louder footsteps, tuning for sliding, and a different distribution of Perks.
One of the main complaints from the beta was the need to use the Dexterity Perk to aim down sights while sliding, diving, and wall jumping. Scronce confirmed that this will now be a default mechanic in the game. Dexterity will still be available but will now provide “maximum fluidity” on top of the default functionality.
Sliding distance and speed have been slightly reduced to improve gameplay balance, but mantling (climbing over obstacles) will now be faster “across the board.”
Aim assist has long been a hot-button issue in Call of Duty, and BO7 is no exception. Many players felt aim assist was overly strong during the beta. Scronce addressed this, noting that controller players tend to win slightly more close-range battles, while mouse and keyboard users have an edge at long range.
“To try to close that gap, we’re going to take a very close look at the strength of aim assist across all of those ranges,” he said. “Additionally, we are looking at rotational aim assist and the requirement for the right aim stick to be moving in the direction of your target. We’ll have more concrete details to share soon.”
Regarding Perk changes, here’s the new slot distribution:
– Tech Mask: Slot 1 → Slot 2
– Scavenger: Slot 1 → Slot 2
– Cold Blooded: Slot 1 → Slot 3
– Looper: Slot 2 → Slot 3
– Tac Sprinter: Slot 3 → Slot 1
Early reactions on social media have been mostly positive, with many Call of Duty fans expressing excitement for the newest installment in the FPS franchise.
*Black Ops 7* is set to launch on November 14 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. More information about the game will be revealed in the coming weeks leading up to release. Stay tuned!
