Tonight on Journey TV! “Jewish Worlds Illuminated: A Treasury of Hebrew Manuscripts from The JTS Library”

A new exhibition at the Grolier Club of New York City, presented by the Jewish Theological Seminary, titled *Jewish Worlds Illuminated*, showcases over 100 manuscripts and books. This collection offers a remarkable world tour of Jewish literary creativity spanning many centuries and thousands of miles.

The exhibition explores the rich diversity of cultures in the various lands where Jewish communities resided, including Egypt, the Ottoman Empire, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Italy, France, Spain, and Germany. Visitors will gain insight into the cultural and historical contexts that shaped these unique manuscripts.

Curated by Professor David Kraemer, Sharon Liberman-Mintz, and Dr. Marcus Mordecai Schwartz, the exhibition draws from the important rare book collection of The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary.

Highlights of the exhibition include:

– A fund-raising letter signed by the renowned rabbi and philosopher Moses Maimonides
– A richly illustrated Passover Haggadah from Renaissance Italy created by the master scribe-artist Joel Ben Simeon
– An 1875 Haggadah from Baghdad, written in both Hebrew and Judeo-Arabic
– A monumental decorated prayer book for the Jewish High Holidays, crafted in Germany in 1290, which features an elaborate Gothic portal inviting the reader to engage deeply with the prayers

This extraordinary exhibition has been made possible with the generous support of the David Berg Foundation and the Dorothy Tapper Goldman Foundation.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this captivating journey through Jewish literary history and cultural heritage.
