**Thai Regulators Raid Iris Scanning Site Linked to Sam Altman’s World Project for Operating Without License**
Thai authorities have conducted a raid on an iris scanning location connected to Sam Altman’s World project, targeting the site for allegedly operating without the necessary licenses. The operation was led jointly by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB).
The raid focused on an iris scanning site that provided services exchanging World’s WLD tokens in return for iris scans. Authorities suspect that the location violated local digital asset laws by operating without a required license.
According to the SEC, sufficient evidence was uncovered during the raid to warrant the arrest of several suspects. These individuals are currently under further investigation as part of ongoing legal proceedings.
This move signals heightened regulatory scrutiny over World’s activities in Thailand. The project, formerly known as Worldcoin, distributes its WLD token through orb locations where users scan their irises to become eligible for tokens.
In Thailand, World operates 102 orb locations, offering these services in jurisdictions where such operations are permitted by law. However, Thai regulators have expressed concerns about the legality of World’s operations within the country, prompting this recent enforcement action.
As regulatory pressure intensifies, future operations by World in Thailand may face additional challenges amid the evolving legal landscape surrounding digital assets.
