New Zealand women’s cricket team opener, Suzie Bates, suffered a first-ball duck in her side’s ODI World Cup match against South Africa at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. Bates was dismissed by South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp off the very first delivery of New Zealand’s innings.

This marked Bates’ second successive duck in the ongoing World Cup campaign. She began the tournament with a duck against Australia, where Sophie Molineux dismissed her in the 2nd over during a chase of 327 runs. Against South Africa, Bates was trapped leg before wicket by Kapp after missing a good-length ball angled in and being struck on the pads.

### 11th Duck in Women’s ODIs

According to ESPNcricinfo, this is Bates’ 11th duck in Women’s ODIs. Having played 173 matches (166 innings), Bates has amassed 5,896 runs, though her batting average has now dropped below 40. Additionally, this was only her second duck against South Africa in ODI cricket.

### Milestone: 350th International Match

Aside from the recent setback with the bat, Bates made history by becoming the first player in women’s cricket to feature in 350 international games. This impressive milestone includes 177 T20 Internationals and 173 ODIs representing New Zealand Women.

In terms of overall international appearances, India’s Harmanpreet Kaur is next on the list with 342 matches, followed closely by Australia’s Ellyse Perry with 341 appearances.

Suzie Bates’ illustrious career continues to inspire, despite recent challenges at the crease in this World Cup.
