Shack Chat: What should be the next Nintendo Pictures Short?

It’s been a little over a week since Nintendo released the *Close to Me* short video, and it’s already got the Shacknews staff buzzing about what we’d like to see next from the Big N. With a treasure trove of intellectual properties to choose from, we figured now would be a great time to ask this week’s question:

**What should be the next Nintendo Pictures Short?**

### Kirby
**Ozzie Mejia, Senior – ‘Right Back At Ya’ DVD Seeker**
If Nintendo is diving into family-friendly shorts, there’s arguably no better mascot than their resident pink puffball, Kirby. He exudes cuteness and a happy-go-lucky demeanor that both kids and adults love. The character offers endless potential for wacky adventures perfectly suited for six-minute shorts.

The world doesn’t have enough Kirby. In fact, the world needs more Kirby—as much as it can get. And why not send him head-to-head with King Dedede in an eating contest? Because, why not?

### Yoshi’s Island
**TJ Denzer, Senior News Editor**
Every time Nintendo takes us back to Yoshi’s Island, it results in some of the most vibrant, fun, and even experimental visuals. I’d love to see a Nintendo Pictures Short set in that aesthetic.

There’s so much to explore visually—from the paper scrapbook style of the original Yoshi’s Island games, to the yarn look of *Yoshi’s Woolly World* and *Yoshi’s Crafted World*, or even the soft 3D style shown in shorts like *Close to You*.

I’m a fan of the Yoshis and their vibrant tropical island home, and I’d be delighted to see more of it in a proper Nintendo short.

### Star Fox
**Asif Khan – Has done a barrel roll**
As a Star Fox fan who’s lost hope for a new game, I think the IP is perfect for short videos highlighting iconic moments. The Star Wolf encounter on Venom immediately comes to mind.

I’d love to see the Star Fox cast back on any screen at this point. Come on, Doug Bowser—do the needful!

### Animal Crossing
**Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord**
I’ve never played a Nintendo game as much as *Animal Crossing: New Horizons*. It was the perfect game at the perfect time, filled with adorable characters like Isabelle. Tom Nook was there too, though we all know he’s a crook.

If Nintendo plans to make shorts a regular thing, there’s no question Animal Crossing needs to be on the list. Tom Nook optional, of course.

### The Legend of Zelda
**Sam Chandler, Ocarina Player**
I think it’s time Nintendo gives us a sneak peek at what a *Legend of Zelda* series could look like. Maybe it’s time to lean away from the traditional video game aesthetic and present a brand-new vision.

I’d love an anime-style Zelda short—Link taking down Ganon with the Master Sword, Zelda channeling her inherent power. Make it anime AF.

### Star Fox (Again)
**Dennis White Jr., Looks edgy like Falco in the mornings**
A brand-new short would be an easy way to remind people that Star Fox exists. Even now, people are still discovering the animated short from nearly 10 years ago and mistaking it for a new project.

Nintendo has a real opportunity to nail this now.

### Animal Crossing (Again)
**Donovan Erskine, Villager**
Short films could be a great way to explore existing IP in ways the games don’t usually allow.

In *Animal Crossing*, the entire world revolves around you—the player. Everything the villagers say and do is tied to your character’s needs. I’d love to see a short focused simply on the animal villagers and what they do outside the daily routine of a human character.

It could feature familiar faces like Tom Nook or Isabelle—or shine a light on some of the lesser-known villagers.

### The Legend of Zelda (Again)
**Steve Tyminski, Hero of Time!**
What should be the next Nintendo Pictures short? There are quite a few options here.

One idea is *Donkey Kong Bonanza*, to dive deeper into DK and Pauline’s relationship and explore their story beyond the main game, like hanging out in New Donkey City.

In my opinion, the shorts series could also breathe new life into franchises that have been in the dark—like Star Fox and Kid Icarus.

But for this question, the best answer has to be *The Legend of Zelda*—a series with some of Nintendo’s richest stories. There are so many timelines and characters to explore where Link and Zelda could interact.

If fans don’t like a particular short, Nintendo can always fall back on the “it’s not canon” excuse. So, *The Legend of Zelda* gets my vote, with an honorable mention to *Donkey Kong Bonanza*.

Nintendo Pictures has a golden opportunity to showcase their beloved characters and worlds in new and exciting ways. Whether it’s Kirby’s cuteness, Yoshi’s creative landscapes, Star Fox’s action-packed adventures, the charm of Animal Crossing’s villagers, or the epic tales of Zelda, fans are ready and eager for more. What do you think? Which Nintendo property would you love to see come to life next?
