Number Of Foreign Residents In Japan Reaches Record 3.95 Million

By nationality and region, Chinese nationals make up the largest group of foreign residents in Japan, with 900,738 individuals. They are followed by Vietnamese residents at 660,483 and South Koreans at 409,584.

Meanwhile, the number of foreigners staying illegally in Japan totaled 71,229 as of July, marking a decrease of 3,634, or 4.9 percent, compared to six months earlier. Among those overstaying their visas, Vietnamese accounted for the largest share with 13,070, followed by Thais at 10,924 and South Koreans at 10,286.

The Japanese government has set a goal of reducing the number of people overstaying their visas to zero, aiming to strengthen immigration control and maintain social order.
