Mavericks’ Brandon Williams reportedly arrested at DFW airport

The Dallas Mavericks are facing increasing challenges in maintaining trust with their fan base following a turbulent start to the 2025-26 NBA season. The latest news is likely to heighten frustration and disbelief among supporters.

Undrafted guard Brandon Williams, who has spent parts of the past three seasons with the Mavs, was arrested and charged with possession of less than two ounces of marijuana at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Saturday, according to Ron Harrod Jr. of DLLS Mavs. Williams had been granted weekend leave and missed the last two games due to personal reasons.

The Mavericks are already thin at point guard, with Kyrie Irving sidelined as he continues to recover from a torn ACL and Dante Exum yet to play this season because of knee soreness. These absences had created an opportunity for Williams, a former Arizona Wildcats standout, to see increased minutes. However, his potential rise within the Mavericks’ rotation is now on hold.

It remains unclear how the organization will respond to the reported arrest. Williams is averaging 8.4 points and 2.5 assists while shooting 42.3 percent from the field over 76 career NBA games. This season, he has logged 19 minutes across the team’s first two matchups, recording three assists but no points.

Dallas has declined to comment publicly on the Brandon Williams situation, as reported by Harrod. Given the information is now circulating widely on social media, a statement from the team may be forthcoming.
